윈드밀 초대 공연 <밤짐승 놀이패>
<밤짐승 놀이패>는 총 6장으로 구성된 80분 길이의 매스게임(mass-game)* 퍼포먼스 극이다. 극에 쓰이는 이동식 배경막은 역사 속에서 공통의 이념을 실어 나르는 거대한 지지체인 카드섹션 혹은 걸개그림과 닮아있다. 여러 등장인물은 거대한 배경막을 경유하여 이야기를 끌어올리고, 뒤집고, 바닥에 처박기를 반복하며 움직인다.<밤짐승 놀이패>는 양성구유(intersex)로 태어난 조선 초기의 인물 ‘사방지’의 서사를 각색한다. 이(異)형의 몸을 가진 사방지의 영웅적이고도 괴물적인 면모가 자신의 운명을 결정하게 되는 서사를 바탕으로 역사 속 실존했던 여러 동류의 이야기를 실어 나른다.
“사방지가 남자로서 여장(女裝)을 한 것은 반드시 그 까닭이 있을 것이니(…)”, 까닭이 있는 운명들은 수많은 종이에 새겨져 휘날릴 것이다.
*매스게임은 많은 사람이 집단으로 행하는 맨손 체조나 율동을 일컫는다.

<Night Beast Troop> is a mass-game performance, a 80 minutes play comprised of 6 chapters. The movable backdrops used in the play resemble card section or Golgaegeurim, which are enormous grounds to convey shared ideologies in history. Characters in the play move via the huge backdrops, repeatedly pulling up, flipping over, crashing down the narratives. <Night Beast Troop> adapts the story of Sah Bang-Ji, a person in early Chosun dynasty who was born as intersex. Based on the narrative that mutated-bodied Sah Bang-ji’s heroic as well as monstrous facets deciding their own fate, it also conveys the stories of different comrades who also existed in history.
“There must be a reason why Sah Bang-Ji dressed woman as man(…)”. Fates with reasons will be whirling, inscribed on countless papers.
