윈드밀은 2025년 하반기 프로그램의 일환으로 일본의 퍼포먼스 플랫폼 Stilllive를 초대한다.
Stilllive는 신체를 매개로 다양한 경험과 관계의 층위를 실험하며, 현장성과 감각적 탐구를 중심으로 퍼포먼스를 확장해온 플랫폼이다. Stilllive는 매년 새로운 컨셉과 장소에서 퍼포먼스 에디션을 제작하며 그 형식과 언어를 끊임없이 갱신해왔다.

Stilllive는 고정된 공연 집단이 아니라, 작가들이 서로의 관심사를 공유하고 연구하는 리서치·워크숍 플랫폼으로 작동하며, 참여 멤버가 프로젝트마다 유동적으로 변화한다. 퍼포먼스를 가능하게 하는 조건으로, 참여자 간의 신뢰와 소통을 중시하며, 세션과 즉흥적 구조 안에서 신체적 경험과 의미의 층위를 실험한다. 각 작가는 개별적인 작업에서 출발하지만, 공동의 시간과 공간을 공유하며 움직임과 개념이 교차하는 순간을 만들어낸다. 이러한 과정 속에서 Stilllive는 집단적이면서도 개인적인 활동을 핵심 가치로 삼는다.

이번 협업은 Stilllive(유키 코바야시, 권상해, 타쿠 요시다, 마유코 이누이, 타쿠야 다케모토, 카루 미요시)와 한국 작가 김태엽, 이민진, 이이정이 윈드밀 공간 안에서 함께 만들어가는 공동 퍼포먼스 프로젝트로 진행된다. 각자의 연구와 작업에서 촉발된 움직임이 한 공간 안에서 동시다발적으로 펼쳐지며, 개별성과 협업이 공존하는 장면을 구성할 것이다.

윈드밀은 이번 초대를 통해 퍼포먼스가 하나의 작품 형식을 넘어 공유된 창작의 과정으로 확장되는 방식을 함께 모색하고자 한다. Stilllive의 신체 중심적 접근과 협업적 제작 방식은 윈드밀이 지향하는 다원예술 플랫폼의 비전과 맞닿아 있으며, 이번 만남은 새로운 퍼포먼스 큐레이션의 가능성을 제시하는 계기가 될 것이다.

Stilllive에게 이번 윈드밀과의 공동 프로젝트는, 우리가 지금까지 쌓아온 퍼포먼스의 생각과 방식을 다른 문화적·실천적 환경 속에서 새롭게 시도해 볼 수 있는 좋은 기회입니다. Stilllive는 고정된 멤버 없이 다양한 아티스트가 모여, 각자의 관심과 질문을 바탕으로 신체를 통해 관계를 만들어가는 퍼포먼스를 ‘열린 과정’으로 탐구해 왔습니다.

이번 협업에서는 일본과 한국의 아티스트들이 같은 공간에서 각자의 리서치와 제작 과정에서 생겨나는 움직임을 함께 쌓아가며, 각자의 개성과 협업에서 생기는 우연이 만나는 순간을 드러내고자 합니다. 이는 하나의 연출이나 언어로 단순화할 수 없는, 다층적인 퍼포먼스의 현현을 있는 그대로 받아들이는 실험이기도 합니다.

이러한 시도를 통해 퍼포먼스를 바라보는 방식과 큐레이션의 형식을 더 넓게 탐색하고, 아티스트 간의 신뢰와 소통을 바탕으로 한 창작 방식을 다양한 영역 속에서 다시 생각할 수 있는 장을 만들고자 합니다.

WINDMILL invites Japanese performance platform Stilllive as part of its late-2025 programming. Stilllive experiments with the layered ways bodies mediate experience and relation and expands performance through an emphasis on liveness and sensory explorations. Each year, the platform produces new performance editions under different concepts and at different sites, continuously renewing its form and language.

Rather than a fixed collective, Stilllive operates as a research/workshop-based platform where artists share and investigate one another’s interests, with participating members shifting fluidly across projects. Trust and communication serve as the platform’s core conditions for making performance possible, and allow participants to experiment with bodily experience and emergent meanings through structured sessions and improvisational frameworks. While each artist begins from their own practice, the shared time and space create moments where movement and idea intersect. In this process, Stilllive holds both collective and individual activity as core values.

This project takes shape as a joint performance by Stilllive members (Yuki Kobayashi, Sanghae Kwon, Taku Yoshida, Mayuko Inui, Takuya Takemoto, Karu Miyoshi) together with Korean artists E Jeong Lee, Minjin Lee and Taeyeop Kim inside the WINDMILL space. Movements sparked from each artist’s research and practice will unfold simultaneously, generating scenes where individuality and collaboration coexist.

Through this invitation, WINDMILL seeks the ways in which performance extends beyond a singular art form into a shared process of creation. Stilllive’s body-centered approach and collaborative mode of production resonate with Windmill’s vision as a multidisciplinary arts platform, and this encounter will open new possibilities for curating performance.

For Stilllive, this collaboration with WINDMILL offers a valuable opportunity to try out the ideas and methods of performance we have carried forward within a different cultural and practical terrain. Without a fixed membership, Stilllive has long approached performance as an “open process” shaped by interests and questions each artist brings into the room.

In this collaboration, artists from Japan and Korea will gather in the same space and accumulate their movements emerging from respective research and making processes to reveal moments where individuality and the unexpected encounters of collaboration. This work is also an experiment in embracing the multilayered manifestations of performance as they arise—irreducible to a single directorial vision or language.

Through this attempt, we look toward more expansive approaches to performance and forms of curation, and toward creating a space to reconsider creative methods based on trust and communication among artists across various domains. (Text: Sanghae Kwon)
